Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
