The boss of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have hit pizza saturation while broadening the franchise into chicken products has been replaced after disagreements with its directors.
Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while Domino's seeks a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who was with Domino's for a substantial period, had attempted to pivot the UK's leading pizza takeaway chain towards fried chicken, remarking in a recent interview there was not “huge potential” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed chicken was the quickest rising protein in the world.
Reports indicate that there was tension between the CEO and the governance team over his approach and business vision, although Domino's announcement said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.
In September, the chain introduced its chicken-focused brand – which the former chief referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the North West region and the province.
While the firm is still intending to launch it across its nearly 1,400 branches in 2026 as intended, it views fried chicken as complementary to its primary pizza operations.
Bull, the company chair, stated: “The board believes that there are a number of opportunities to boost expansion and profitability in our primary operations. We are focused on finding the ideal CEO to oversee the systematic rollout of that development approach.”
In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said transactions declined by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In August, it warned that the takeaway market had “grown more challenging” as it attributed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the government announcement and rising wage costs for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in interim earnings.
Other pizza operators are also struggling. Another major chain announced the shutting of 68 restaurants a last month, after the business behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.
Adapting to market shifts towards balanced diets, the company has introduced reduced-calorie items, such as its Thin & Crispy range of pizzas below 400 calories as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has 909 kcal.
Nicola Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and previously worked for the gaming group William Hill. It is understood that she is not seeking to assume the CEO position long-term.
She said: “The company has a several ongoing development and operational projects that we will be focused on implementing at a rapid rate.”
She said these comprised ongoing development on the company's procurement system and menu innovation, and its customer retention initiative.
The pizza chain is also in need of a permanent CFO until 16 March, when Andy Andrea joins from the drinks company C&C Group. For now, Richard Snow is temporary CFO.
