The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the new Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Reports indicate that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their appearance will likely occur in a future-set scene, as the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
In other news, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
