Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its hiring of foreign workers on short-term work permits this year, while his government was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the identical, an analysis published Thursday stated.
Based on data from the US Department of Labor, the business aimed to hire at least nearly 200 foreign workers in the coming year for short-term roles at the US president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.
The quantity of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas for staff including servers, clerks, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the highest ever filed by the organization, and increased from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that Trump had sought to hire over a hundred overseas workers for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, according to labor statistics.
The disclosure comes amid a tightening on legal immigration by his administration that has included the introduction of a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas; increased review of the activities of the millions of people who already hold US visas; and tighter regulations for international scholars and reporters.
In total, the Trump Organization sought to hire 566 foreign laborers over the period the former president has been in the presidency, from his first term and during the upcoming year.
Significantly, the former president was criticized by some in the Republican party this period for remarks justifying the necessity for overseas employees when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill certain positions.
“You can’t just say a nation is entering, going to spend $10bn to build a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an jobless roster who have been unemployed in years, and they’re going to start making their defense systems. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he stated to a host after it was implied that foreign workers undercut the wages of American employees.
The administration declined a request for comment, and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an request for information.
